The NYSE (New York Stock Exchange)  is the world’s largest equities-focused exchange, based on the overall market capitalization of its traded shares. It is based in New York City. Following the purchase of electronic trading exchange Archipelago on March 8, 2006, the NYSE became a public body. 1 In 2007, the New York Stock Exchange merged with Euronext, Europe’s largest stock exchange, to form NYSE Euronext, which was later purchased by Intercontinental Exchange, the present parent of the New York Stock Exchange.
